Born on July 30, 1942, in Haarlem, The Netherlands, Louise spent the years 1943 to1945 hiding in Amsterdam with her father, mother, and brother. Her father was a businessman, and her mother was an artist. In 1943, the family went into hiding in the storage attic of a row house in Amsterdam. They remained indoors for two and a half years, except for her father, who ventured out occasionally.

Tragically most of her extended family was deported to Auschwitz and Sobibor in Poland, where they were killed. After the liberation, she was enrolled in a Montessori school. In 1946, the family left for Stockholm, Sweden, but returned to Holland in 1948, where she resumed her studies at a Montessori school. Over time, three more siblings were born.

She became a physiotherapist and worked in Amsterdam.

Later, she married an American medical student and moved to the United States with him. Together, they have three daughters, six grandchildren, and one great-grandson. The family spent 21 years with the Army, living four years in Italy and six years in Belgium.

In 1993, they moved to Bethesda, where she has been a dedicated volunteer at the Holocaust Museum for 29 years.
